MPTF Every Member Campaign
What is the MPTF?
The Motion Picture Television Fund is a charitable organization that offers assistance and care to those in the motion picture and television industries with limited or no resources. It was created by Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith, who realized the need for reaching out to those in the entertainment industry who fell upon hard times. Its mission is to offer programs and charitable services which are provided with compassion and respect for the dignity of the whole person.
For 90 years, the Fund has provided a wide range of services to the entertainment community that include:
- Community Programs such as Elder, Child and Palliative Care
- the Health Centers available to participants of the MPIPHP/Blue Shield Health plan
- Senior Care through their Residential Retirement Community
- Crisis Support programs such as Financial Assistance and Confidential Support

Every Member Campaign
The MPTF began nintey years ago with simple coin-box donations in the name of colleagues who have fallen on hard times. The fund continues today through the same generous charitable donations from the community it serves. The Every Member Campaign is the donation drive dedicated to IATSE members. The IATSE is largest participant group utilizing the MPTF Health Centers. Animation Guild members have benefited from the range of services of MPTF offers since our inception. We, along with the rest of the IATSE locals, are asking our membership to give what they can afford to support the Fund that has helped our community for almost a century.
How can I help?
There are a selection of ways you can participate in giving back to the Fund:
You can make a charitable donation directly to the fund. They have a webpage set up to take your donation. We have fliers in the office that you can use to do the same and distribute to your colleagues.
You can make a recurring donation through the MPTF Payroll Pledge program. This program has been utilized by IATSE members since 1932. There are specific studios and payroll companies that are able to use this program. Check this page to see if your studio is on the list.
You can donate as a group using this form. This would be beneficial if you wanted to show the solidarity among your studio or the trade organization you belong to.
You can register with the fund to volunteer your time. The MPTF utilizes a dedicated volunteer corps to assist with many of the programs they have in place.
BE SURE TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS A TAG MEMBER!!
The MPTF is providing a Leaderboard that illustrates the percentage of the membership of each of the affiliated West Coast locals that has participated. It is important that you make sure to identify yourself as a member of Local 839 when making your donation so we can be recognized among our peers.
