Committee Updates – June 2026

Amanda De Lany / July 6, 2026

Committee Updates / no comments

It’s been a busy month for TAG’s committees, with plenty of progress to report. From taking to the streets at the West Hollywood Pride Parade to preparing for the bargaining road ahead in 2027, here is the latest on what your committees worked on in June.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee

In June, the AI Committee sent representatives to Sacramento to advocate for AB-412, a bill that would force AI companies to let copyright holders know if they’ve included the holders’ work in the company’s datasets. The bill passed through both the Privacy Committee and the Judiciary Hearing and is on its way to the Appropriations Committee! The AI Committee also began initial preparations for the upcoming 2027 negotiations, visited Nikkei Progressives, and continued to hear reports from members about AI usage at studios.

All TAG members are welcome to join the AI Committee meetings every Wednesday at 1 p.m. If any members based in Sacramento, or who are able to make it to Sacramento for the next Senate hearing, please reach out to the AI Committee. They may ask you to speak in favor of AB-412. Contact the AI Committee at ai@tag839.org.

Design Committee

On June 12, the Design Committee hosted a cross-craft mixer along with the Story and Production Workers Committees. With 45 people in attendance, it was a great time for members to meet up and talk.

In July,  the Design Committee will start gathering information and crafting proposals for 2027 negotiations. If anyone is interested in contributing ideas or has opinions about these efforts, they should join the Design Committee Discord: https://discord.gg/FkeMwvPqH

Memorial Committee

The Memorial Committee plans and organizes a beloved, annual Afternoon of Remembrance where they honor many of those in the industry that passed during the previous year. The committee keeps track of those who pass away, and they research credits, create short bios, locate photos, and most importantly reach out to potential speakers to offer tributes and reflections.

The Memorial Committee has their first meeting scheduled for August 22, 2026.  If you would like to contribute your time and talents to the good work the committee does, reach out to them at aor@tag839.org.

QueerTAG (QT) Committee

In June, the QT Committee celebrated Pride Month with a renewed commitment to providing a space where our Queer and Trans members feel safe, seen, and supported. Amidst a challenging national climate, the committee remains dedicated to defending our hard-won rights and ensuring every member knows they are not alone.

To mark the occasion, Andy Garner-Flexner spearheaded a cohort of TAG and other IATSE L.A. Locals to proudly march in the WeHo Pride Parade. It was an inspiring day of community and solidarity, showcasing the strength of our collective voice. The committee looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing its work to ensure our workplace remains inclusive for all.

All LGBTQA+ TAG members are encouraged to email queertag@tag839.org for an invite to their private Discord server.

Young Workers Committee (NYC)

The NYC Young Workers were on a short break for the month of June and will be on break through July as they prepare for the Young Workers Conference in Toronto.

The Young Workers Committee is planning for their first event once they are back from their break, hopefully to be held at the Bronx Zoo. The committee is also working on ways to help their unit transition to the new health insurance that they won in their successor contract, and they are eager to learn how they can better offer educational opportunities as a committee. You can contact them atnycywc839@gmail.comfor more info.
