Gallery 839

Artist Cristi Lyon exhibited her work in March 2020.

Gallery 839 is a nonprofit gallery featuring art by members of the Animation Guild, IATSE, Local 839. Artists on exhibit are tried-and-true in their fields of animation and visual art, offering a unique merging of the Union and fine art worlds.

At this small gem in Burbank, the artwork is diverse and eclectic. The Animation Guild’s first gallery opened in 1962, and its current Gallery 839 launched in 2010. Over the years exhibitions have included media such as pottery, ceramics, bronze, poly resin, paint, pencil, glasswork ,and more.

The gallery is home to individual and group shows, and artists receive 90% of the commission from their sales. Better yet, the work is affordable. At monthly openings, the public can enjoy art and refreshments while mingling with the artists behind today’s popular movies and TV shows, as well as animation industry legends.

Group Show: The Superhero Project
Opening Reception: Thursday, April 4, 2024, 5pm-8pm

TAG animation artists from favorite TV shows and movies have created posters of superhero personas for youth from Ronald McDonald House Pasadena, Gigi’s Playhouse in Orange County, and other organizations around the U.S. and U.K. These superhero depictions are based on interviews with kids and teens impacted by illnesses and disabilities about who they are beyond their diagnosis and how they want to make a positive difference in the world—their superhero mission. The result is a visual representation of their strength, courage, creativity, and resilience. Many of the families and artists who participated in the project will be in attendance.

Bright Scribbles: An Olivia Pecan Solo Exhibition

Bright Scribbles is the first solo exhibition by Olivia Pecini, featuring a variety of vivid, whimsical, colored pencil drawings. From industrial to bucolic, goofy to serious, this show has something for everyone.

An illustrator/animator based in Los Angeles, Pecini is currently a Background Painter on Disney TVA’s Big City Greens. She has also worked on Tuca and Bertie, Fairfax, Mulligan, and The Midnight Gospel. Though she specializes in backgrounds, she has also worked as a Storyboard Artist, Story Revisionist, and Color Designer. In her free time, she is finishing her first feature screenplay.

Bright Scribbles is suitable for all ages. A percentage of the profits will be donated to the Central Park Conservancy.
