Tell us a little about yourself and your career journey.
I started my animation career in 2006 working as a Character Layout Artist during the first Simpsons Movie and continued on the series for many seasons. Wanting to expand my skills, I moved around as a Storyboard Artist at various studios like Cartoon Network, DreamWorks, Titmouse, and Marvel. I eventually got to direct and supervise episodes on the shows Paradise PD, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Rick and Morty, and President Curtis. This year marks my 20th year in the industry, and I have come full circle, currently working on the second Simpsons movie.
What do you love most about working in animation?
Besides the joy of drawing, I love getting to collaborate with fellow artists who are all amazing at their craft and together creating something that is enjoyed by audiences.
Why did you volunteer to serve as Shop Steward?
Seeing other friends and colleagues take the initiative to become elected members of the Guild and spending their free time to help improve the industry inspired me to get more involved. I had always been a casual observer, attending meetings and paying my dues, but after working in the industry for this long and fortunately steadily, I wanted to give back in some way. Helping out younger artists with some guidance and volunteering my time as Shop Steward were ways I could do that.
As a Shop Steward, what are your priorities in helping TAG members at your studio?
I mostly wanted to help fellow members be informed, relaying important news or events happening at the Guild to the crew. I hope to bring awareness and preparedness for important issues like new media and AI, and the trends happening around our industry like mergers or strikes that can directly impact our employment.
