As of August 3, 2020, wage minimums will increase by 3 percent as per the 2018-2021 Local 839 Master Agreement. Here’s what you need to know:

Does this apply to all studios?
Some studios, such as Warner Animation Group, The Secret Lab and Sony Animation, have separate agreements with Local 839 and will see wages rise on a different schedule. Employers under the Master Agreement and Nickelodeon will be implementing the increase in wage minimums as of Monday, August 3, 2019. Don’t know which contract your studio is under? Email us at membership@tag839.org. Or check out all studio contracts here.

Is everyone getting an automatic pay rise?
Wage minimums are increasing by 3 percent so if you make significantly more than the minimum you would not be eligible for an automatic increase. Check the Wage Scales here and review the minimum for the Third Period under your classification. If you currently make less than the minimum, you will receive an increase in your wages. If you make more, remember you can always negotiate a merit-based wage increase!

What if I’m not sure about my classification?
First, check your paystub or deal memo—sometimes studios will list your classification. If not, contact the Guild. Email us at membership@tag839.org.

What if I’m on a New Media production?
New Media may not be required to use the same rates for your job classification as listed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and may not be required to implement the wage increases negotiated. If you have any questions, please contact the Guild office so we can review your individual situation. Email us at membership@tag839.org.

What if I don’t see my wage minimum increase automatically on my paycheck?
You won’t see the increase until the week of Aug. 10, 2020 (for the previous working week, starting on Aug. 3, 2020). If you’re eligible for the increase and you don’t receive it on your paycheck, talk to your employer. If you’re not satisfied with their response, contact the Guild office. Email us at membership@tag839.org.
