HEADGARDENED: The art of Daniela Hoyos, a.k.a. Arumuela

Headgardened is the manifestation of a self-contained universe where Colombian artist Daniela Hoyos (a.k.a Arumuela) intertwines her own myths with surrealism, thus birthing whimsical creatures through masks, illustration, dance and animation.

The masks in this show are some of the shapes these creatures take in our world and that become animated by the human body- therefore they are not meant to be seen as an ornament but as an organism, or even a totem, that possesses the wearer into their own oneiric language through movement. 

On the other hand, the animations and illustrations portray some of these beings as they exist in their own dimension, usually suspended in raw states of emotion where just by means of their movement and expression they become creators, or “gods.”
