Union Plus Legal Program

Union members are on the front lines of the response to our nation’s public health crisis. MetLife’s Legal Attorney Network is offering union members free legal document review, consultations, and advice through July 31, 2020 for many issues, including:

  • Healthcare proxies or other estate planning
  • Home refinancing or personal insurance forms
  • Elder law questions for caregivers

Union members will also have access to MetLife Legal Plans Self-Help Document Library to complete wills, living wills and power of attorney documents.

Memorial Committee Update

The Memorial Committee continues to work quietly on the Afternoon of Remembrance, collecting and compiling information, and updating our list as needed.  We cannot yet know what 2021 will bring, and whether we will be permitted to gather for the usual Afternoon of Remembrance, have a virtual one, or both gather and make the event available virtually.  We have yet to discuss the possibilities, and it seems too early to know what will come.  If you are interested in helping out with next year’s event, email committees@tag839.org.

Paid Family Leave is extending by TWO WEEKS starting July 1, 2020!

Parents and caregivers may take up to eight weeks of partially paid leave to bond with a new baby, adopted or fostered child, or to care for a seriously ill relative or domestic partner of any age.

Looks like we’re taking baby steps (pun intended) toward better supporting our working families. Find more information for parents and caregivers.

For a quick confirmation that you’re contributing to California State Disability Insurance, check your paystub for the CASDI contribution. If you’re self-employed and are not contributing to CASDI, you may consider contributing to Disability Insurance Elective Coverage (DIEC). Find more information.

Union Child Care through Carina

The Carina caregiving app is a search engine for families to find local childcare run by unionized workers. The app is free for union members. Learn more here.

IATSE Cares

Earlier this week the IATSE shared a letter with our membership. With COVID-19 cases rising in several states, many of our at-risk kin are still in need of support. To date our IATSE brothers, sisters and kin have made over 6,000 calls to check-in and provide critical assistance, but there are still many that have yet to be reached out to and need our help.  Please help us finish our mutual aid campaign strong.  Let’s ensure that no one in the IATSE family is left behind by making a few calls today.
